The Voice-Mail Treasury

In an assignment for a sound composition class, I chose to use as my material voicemail messages that I had forgotten to delete, and had become backed up in my phone. Here is a sound collage using bits and pieces from various messages left by friends, relatives, and acquaintances that results in a short but sweet snapshot of the power of friends and the power of the telephone to stir emotions and memories. Run Time: 0:56.

Oh neat! This is a very sweet piece. I enjoyed it tremendously and it is interesting how it makes me think about the few saved voicemails that I have saved that I can't bring myself to delete. Good work, lady.

Oh wow! This is why I love your work. You can make such stellar stuff with the pieces we always want to save but never know how. Was that me, "I'm not gonna lie"? I always say that. This makes me want to make sure I back up my messages because with my phone, after a month or so, they delete automatically, which is lame. How did you transfer and save them? My way seems kinda lo-fi.

Woah i love it! you totally rule.. I just played your thesis trailer for Cassie (you two will surely meet one of these days..) because she is thinking about doing something somewhat similar to your piece, with a multi-character non-linear but unified narrative.. but she's a video person. anyways, after she left i listened to this and loved it too, and thought "carlin totally rules." the end.
